Cogeneration, on the other hand, is based on the principle of producing electricity by running a generator and recovering the heat in the cooling process.
In ‘large building’ installations (administrative and public buildings, banks, computer centres, data management centres, sports facilities, schools, hospitals, communications centres, exhibition halls, industrial sites, waste dumps, biomethanisation plants, etc.), cogeneration systems can meet the need for both electrical and thermal energy, either for on-site consumption or for remote consumption via the electricity grid and hot water networks. Today, this technology can operate with combined efficiencies of between 77% and 89%, using the most environmentally-friendly fuels available - natural gas and biogas.
