          About Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg Asbl

FAIRTRADE - The NGO Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg

The NGO Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg and its partners are committed to working together to develop fairer, more sustainable trade between producers and workers in Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and Asia, and consumers in Luxembourg.

As a member of Fairtrade International, the Luxembourg-based non-profit association takes into account the social, economic and environmental dimensions of fair trade, which should no longer be seen as an alternative, but simply as an illustration of common sense aimed at achieving greater respect and equality in international trade.

          FAIRTRADE - Why fair trade?

The global market is governed by fierce competition and pressure on prices. Producers and workers in Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and Asia, who have almost no influence in negotiations and little information about world markets, have to cope with price volatility and the exploitation of local middlemen. With no real storage possibilities, they often have to sell their produce fairly quickly to middlemen, especially if it is of a perishable nature, in order to obtain the money they need to feed their families. Most of the time, the selling price is so low that it doesn't even cover production costs.

Fair trade brings to life universal values such as respect, justice and equality.

It is a powerful lever for social change, helping to shape a fair and sustainable future society.

Fair trade already has a certain place in our daily consumption, but it remains a minority compared to conventional trade.

It reactivates the power to act of everyone: producers, workers, processors, distributors, decision-makers and consumers.

Together, let's reactivate our power to act! Let's spread fair trade to all spheres of daily life!
