          luxembourg

Do you want to settle in Luxembourg alone or with your family? Luxembourg enjoys a high quality of life that will appeal to the most demanding. High wages and excellent social benefits go hand in hand with a high cost of living. Discover the prices in force in Luxembourg in terms of real estate, food, clothing, leisure ...

Find accommodation in Luxembourg according to your budget

You want to settle in Luxembourg-City and look for a housing that meets your expectations and your budget? Research can be long and tedious, with housing supply being less important than demand. Start your search as soon as possible.

Since 2014, real estate prices have been climbing steadily. As an indication, they can be compared to those of Paris. If you are alone and do not need a lot of space, you can buy a studio for around 250,000 euros. As a couple, opt for a two-bedroom apartment. Expect around 400,000 euros. Are you settling with your family? A 4 bedroom house sells for around 665,000 euros. In Luxembourg City, the price can go up to 825,000 euros. If you are planning on investing in housing under construction, the price will be around 20% higher than an existing home.

As in most major cities, some neighborhoods are more expensive than others. Luxembourg-City and its surroundings are the most expensive places. In the city of Luxembourg, it is in the neighborhoods of Merl and Belair that we find the most expensive housing. For example, renting a small studio is more than 700 euros per month. The rent for a two bedroom apartment climbs above 1000 euros. There are also furnished accommodations, ideal if you are settling for a shorter period. In addition to the calm and charm of these two neighborhoods, these high prices can be explained by the proximity of the city center and the excellent public transport connections. Other fairly expensive neighborhoods include Kirchberg, Limpertsberg, the Upper Town and Weimershof. The city is very well served, the smaller budgets should not hesitate to move away from the center and settle in neighborhoods such as Bonnevoie or Limperstberg.

Other nearby towns offer apartments and houses at reasonable prices: Bridel, Cessange, Bertrange, Mamer, Howald ... Very pleasant to live, these towns are easily accessible by train. The city of Esch-sur-Alzette, located south of Luxembourg, also offers housing at much more affordable prices. This is also the case in the north of the country. Very popular in Luxembourg, colocation is an interesting option for small budgets. Faced with the steady rise in real estate prices, both for renting and buying, the roommate is experiencing a resurgence of popularity among young people and expatriates.

The cost of living in Luxembourg

High prices do not only concern real estate and the related expenses (water, electricity, gas, internet ...). For information, count between 40 and 50 euros per month by an internet subscription. Food, recreation, transportation and clothing show the same trend. For a meal in the restaurant, plan a minimum of 50 euros with drinks. At the leisure level, a movie theater costs around 8.80 euros.

In other areas, prices are lower than those in the rest of Europe. This is the case of alcoholic beverages, tobacco, fuel and electronic items (television, computer, laptop ...). Before choosing which neighborhood to settle in Luxembourg, find out about the cost of transportation to get to work. This parameter is not negligible when we know for example that a parking space near the station costs about 20 euros per day. If you are settling with children, know that nurseries are quite expensive. Public schools are, however, free.
