A little history…
Contrary to what one might think, the burger was not invented in the United States , but in Germany, in the city of Hamburg. The sailors were followers of the chopped steaks stuck between two rolls: it must be said that the meat, preserved in salt or smoke, was easily kept during the voyages to sea.
Landed on the other side of the Atlantic, the Germans then introduced their "Hamburg steak" to Americans. An ideal meal for the locals in a hurry, who consumed it while walking.
It is in the United States, on the other hand, that the first fast-food was born . "White Castle" was born from the ideas of Billy Ingram who, by opening his restaurant, probably did not know the extent that the concept of fast food would take. For example, McDonald's now sells 75 burgers a second around the world.
Extremely popular, the small round sandwich now has its own international day on 13 October.
Burgers for all tastes
If the basic burger is traditionally composed of two rolls including a steak, salad, tomatoes and ketchup, there is now a multitude. Revisited to satisfy the desires of consumers, it is even now, its place in starred restaurants.
For the more adventurous, the burger also invites itself to dessert : burger with chocolate, fruit or donuts ... The imagination of chefs is limitless!
The most expensive burger in the world
Want to extravagance? Go to Las Vegas to test the "Fleurburger", invented by chef Hubert Keller. Exit the Big Mac, enjoy a burger consisting of Wagyu beef, foie gras and truffles. Price shown on the card: 5,000 dollars. As for drinks, for 2,000 dollars more, the restaurant invites you to accompany your dish with a bottle of Château Pétrus.
