Maintaining a garden is not easy, let alone during the winter. Fall, the season of falling leaves, is ideal for planting certain species and varieties of flowers. A relatively mild and humid weather allows good growth of plants. It is therefore important to adopt the right actions but also to protect your garden in view of the approaching negative temperatures. Enjoy the remaining weeks before the arrival of the cold to prepare it at best.
Fall is the best season to plant shrubs, bulbs and other perennials in your garden. Various plants do not withstand the extreme cold and need the warmer weather of autumn. Bulb planting is usually done in the spring. However, by choosing well, it is possible to spread the blooms over most of the year. Crocuses, for example, bloom in autumn, gladiolas bloom in summer and snowdrops develop in winter. It is better to use organic compost to promote their development. Note that soil drainage is also an important factor to ensure the survival of bulbs (snowdrops, for example). For a successful natural effect, discard the bulbs on the fly and plant them where they fall.
This season of the year is also a pivotal season but nevertheless ideal for planting perennials such as lilies, daffodils or daffodils, dependent on the sun. The planting of perennials is preferably done in autumn in previously prepared soil. The waterings must then be regular, especially the first 3 years, to ensure the flowering of the plant.
In general, it is recommended to cut outside the cold period. Nevertheless, at the beginning of winter, it is possible to prune the most resistant plants, such as rose bushes and perennials, which may have remained beautiful until the beginning of autumn. It is advisable to fold foliage withered and yellowed perennials at ground level.
For summer flowering plants, do not touch it. Hydrangea flowers or grasses, for example, need their leaves and can wait until the end of winter for their "cut". It is also important to know that pips are pruned when they have lost their leafing while stone trees are "green".
Some more fragile plants need to be returned during the winter while leaving them adequate ventilation. On the other hand, for the most tenacious, it is possible to leave them in the open air provided they are protected and have a more or less soft weather.
In order to enjoy the garden at the end of the winter, some landscaping can be expected: renovation of an alley, preparation of the ground for a lawn, design of a kitchen garden, etc. This is also the perfect time to set up a pond at home, put it in water and prepare it for spring. Finally, even in winter, take care of birds and other small individuals in your garden by providing them with water and food, under a small shelter.
