The right way to send your mail to Luxembourg!

          envoyer une lettre au Luxembourg

Have you always wondered if there really is a good way to write an address on an envelope?  Should we write the country in capital letters? Is the address of the sender really required? So many questions we answer in this article!

Essential information for formatting your addresses

In order to ensure a reliable and fast distribution of your mail, it is essential to take care of the writing and address of your recipients . This will allow you to contribute actively to the quality of the service and thus avoid any delay. In addition, if your recipient has a PO Box, remember to indicate the address of his PO Box instead of his physical address. Yes, they are two different things!

          Some recommendations to follow

To write an address on an envelope, it's very simple, just follow these few recommendations:

          1. Font: It is essential not to use decorative, ornamental, scripted or condensed type fonts. We recommend the following fonts: Arial, Century, Mangal, Raavim Tahoma, Tunga or Verdana. For optimal readability , use only one font in the same address block and make sure that characters and lines do not touch each other. As for the minimum size of characters, it must be greater than or equal to 8 points, a size between 10 and 12 points is ideal for your envelope. Finally, the fat, in other words the "thickness" of the letters, must not be too thin or too big.

          2. Respect of the addressing area: As you can see in the diagram below, you only have to write the address in the " reserved address area ", leaving 15 mm on each side.

          3. Writing the address: The address must be left aligned and may have up to 6 lines. Interlining is quite possible but it must be normal so that there is not too much space between two lines. Always for optimal readability, it is important not to unnecessarily increase the address . So, do not underline anything, write very clearly the postal code and do not repeat the indications of the address of the addressee if the latter has a post office box or a code heavy users. For less common numbers such as 6/8 rue des Bains, use only the first digit, 6 rue des Bains. And above all, adopt the right structure !

In all, there are 3 types of address:

Below you will find some concrete examples of possible addresses for Luxembourg ...

          ... but also for abroad:

For foreign addresses, you must include the name of the country in full and capital letters on the last line, preferably in French. This mention is also essential for countries with alphanumeric code such as the United Kingdom for example. If, on the contrary, the postal code is only numeric, you may not enter the name of the country, but the code must be preceded by the international car registration code or the ISO code, as you can see on the example above (to Switzerland).

          4. The address of the sender : For our last recommendation, we advise you to always mention the name and full address of the sender to allow the return of mail to the correct address in case of impossibility of distribution. This statement must be written either on the back of the envelope, on the closing tab, or on the front in the upper left corner. Note that this is mandatory for registered items!

          Our little tip

To avoid any error in the address, various search tools have been made available to you such as the " Search a zip code " tool.
