Which material?
The materials used in the construction of garden sheds are now numerous:
- Wood : this is the most common since it melts well in a natural setting like a garden. However, to keep your wooden house, it is essential to take care of it because moisture or insects can damage it: you will have to treat it with a special product.
- The metal : steel or aluminum, your shelter will require no maintenance and will be of great longevity. On the other hand, its industrial aspect can denature your green space.

What size ?

On the other hand, if your desire is to create a real place of life , you will have to see bigger: if you want to turn the place into a summer kitchen or DIY workshop, bet on an area greater than 20 m² .
What support?
For maximum stability, and even more so if your house is over 10m², the concrete slab is the best option, especially insulated from moisture. On the other hand, make sure that it is not wider than the overhang of the roof because, in case of rain, the water may remain on it and cause infiltration.
If your shelter is small, a slab is not imperative, but recommended. If you choose to do without it, it is necessary that you prepare the soil by draining and stabilizing it.
Which roof?
There are different coatings:
- The bitumen felt , which is the most common and is easy to install. However, the life of an inexpensive model is limited because of moisture.
- The roofting : this waterproof, but very thin, is composed of felt felt strips.
- The shingle : this roof looks, to be mistaken, a slate roof. It is very light and malleable.
What price ?
The price of your construction will of course depend on its size. A basic model and less than 5m² will cost you less than 200 euros .
A larger model will cost you more: the price of some shelters, more sophisticated, can climb up to 5,000 euros.
