It is a help given to people who can no longer take care, and whose costs can be difficult to bear . This means that, for example, if you no longer know how to feed yourself autonomously or if you are unable to carry out your toilet without assistance, you can benefit from dependency insurance.
The long-term care insurance is integrated into social security , and works like health insurance: the contribution is obligatory and any person, if it finds itself in situation of dependency, can benefit from a help. It is therefore a solidarity principle.

To enjoy this dependency insurance, it is necessary to prove that one can no longer perform certain acts of everyday life (to feed oneself, to wash oneself, to dress alone, etc.). for at least 6 months. Other conditions: it must be shown that the act that can no longer be performed autonomously takes at least 3 hours and 30 minutes a week, and that it is the result of an illness or disability (physical, psychological or mental).
Note that these conditions are not requested to certain categories of the population , including people with complete blindness or severe hearing problems.
An application must be submitted via a long-term care insurance claim form . It is available at the Evaluation and Orientation Unit, at the Caisse Nationale de Santé, and at the Ministry of Social Security.
Before returning the form, it is imperative to attach a report prepared by a doctor . The latter must provide information on the state of health of the person applying for the long-term care insurance.
Any request is then evaluated by a nurse and a doctor designated by the Evaluation and Orientation Unit . On the basis of their opinion, the final decision is made by the President of the Caisse Nationale de Santé.
