Discipline inspired by dance , yoga and gymnastics, the Pilates method has more and more followers. Do you want to try ? We tell you more before you register for your first meeting in Luxembourg!
It is to Joseph Pilates , a German nurse, that we owe the creation of this discipline, during the First World War. He was taken prisoner as an enemy alien while exiled to Britain and imagined this new discipline while in detention.
When released, he begins to teach this practice. From the 1980s, it will become more and more popular, before being officially recognized, in 2000, as a physical discipline in its own right .
In total, Pilates includes over 500 exercises that are based on 7 pillars: centering, concentration, control, fluidity, order, breathing and relaxation.
The various sequences are primarily intended to strengthen the deep muscles of the body , and to rectify the general posture , so as to avoid any disorder of the spine.
This activity will also tone your figure , improve your flexibility and balance , and reduce the fatigue or stress you suffer, both physically and mentally. It will also allow you to improve your breath through the breathing exercises that you will perform.
After a delivery, it is also ideal to rehabilitate his perineum.
Pilates can be practiced by everyone, both men and women, from adolescence . You will see that there are also sessions suitable for older people, as well as for pregnant women.
If the exercises and movements to be performed may seem complicated at first (they do indeed work parts of the body that do not always used to be solicited if you do not often do sports), they have the advantage of not being traumatic for the body.
Each session is done in groups, usually divided by level. You will sit on a floor mat, and see that other accessories can be used: especially a big balloon, which will allow you to work your balance, or a circle, which, placed between your thighs, will allow you to muscle them.
Side holding , you will not need anything extraordinary, but opt for a set in which you feel good and that allows to move: leggings or shorts, with a t-shirt or bra .
On the Internet, it is easy to find many videos with tutorials and Pilates exercises to perform at home. Even if it is practical and free, it is better to go to a session where you will be followed by a coach, especially at the beginning: it will help you work your breath, and correct your posture during the different movements you will perform.
