The ROCKWOOL Group is the world leader in stone wool solutions. As the market leader in insulation, Rockwool offers sustainable solutions for fire protection and energy efficiency in buildings, while ensuring optimum acoustic and climate performance. The Group also offers products and solutions for the industrial, forced horticulture, petrochemical and shipbuilding sectors.
Founded in 1909, the ROCKWOOL Group has several factories in Europe, Asia and North America. The Group has more than 12,000 employees. ROCKWOOL’s headquarters are in Hedehusene (Denmark). Around 1,200 people work for ROCKWOOL Benelux, which is headquartered in Roermond, the Netherlands.
ROCKWOOL in the Benelux: Stone wool is a versatile material that can be used in a wide range of applications and sectors. Stone wool solutions improve the fire protection and energy efficiency of buildings, while ensuring optimum acoustic and climate performance. Stone wool is also used in the industrial, forced horticulture, petrochemical and shipbuilding sectors.
Sustainable working method: ROCKWOOL’s working method reflects the company’s strong social commitment. The Group’s activities must contribute to the quality of the environment as well as to the safety and comfort of people. ROCKWOOL insulation products save a hundred times more energy over their entire service life than the energy used for the production and transport of the products themselves. The production process is also the subject of continuous research aimed at reducing energy consumption and protecting the environment, in particular by reducing CO2 emissions and promoting recycling.
Social & Environmental Report: ROCKWOOL produces annual reports on its social and environmental policy, activities, performance, successes and the outlines of its future policy. The reports examine, among other things, the efforts made in terms of personnel, employee health and the way in which we work together. ROCKWOOL also looks at socially relevant topics, such as the environment, energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
Controlled and sustainable policy: Political involvement in social and environmental matters is part of a guaranteed control system for quality, working conditions and the environment. In addition, ROCKWOOL activities and products meet national and international legal requirements, regulations and (internal) standards, such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and other requirements, commitments and guidelines.
Production and recycling: Stone wool is a natural product made from volcanic rock. The production process for stone wool involves simulating a volcanic eruption. Stone wool is produced at a temperature of 1,500 degrees Celsius. Diabase, the volcanic rock used in the production process, is not a rare resource and is present in large quantities in most regions. The ROCKWOOL Group has made significant investments in recycling systems. Stone wool waste and waste from other industries are compressed into briquettes, which are then fused together and reused as raw material in the production of stone wool. The Rockwool Group’s project on the reuse of waste from other industries was funded by the EU Life programme. More information
Fire safety: ROCKWOOL believes that in practice, the fire safety sector must go beyond the criteria set out in legislation and regulations. Fire safety must be a top priority in order to minimise the risks to people, property and the environment. Rockwool now has extensive expertise in this sector and advocates a proactive approach consisting of using materials and construction types that optimise fire safety both before and during construction. ROCKWOOL stone wool is non-flammable. Classified A1 (maximum safety) according to the European fire reaction classification EN 135011, this stone wool emits almost no smoke, does not allow the formation of drops, prevents flash-over and protects buildings against fire. The use of stone wool as an insulation material therefore makes homes safer.
Energy efficiency: Energy-efficient buildings help reduce CO2 emissions and increase comfort. Insulation is a cost-effective solution to save energy and reduce CO2 emissions. ROCKWOOL believes that optimal insulation is essential to achieve comfortable, liveable and affordable buildings, while meeting (inter)national CO2 reduction targets. ROCKWOOL contributes to this effort by manufacturing quality products that enable healthy, energy-efficient building projects that result in zero- or even positive-energy buildings.
