The role of SIDOR involves the management of waste from the 34 municipalities in the south and center of Luxembourg. This area has 415,000 inhabitants, which is two-thirds of the country's population. Beyond the incineration and energy recovery of waste, this comprehensive management also includes public information and awareness, as well as the constant search for new solutions, with the aim of reducing the amount of waste produced and strictly limiting incineration to non-recoverable waste.
At its facility in Leudelange, the only waste-incineration plant in the country, SIDOR processes the waste from its 34 member municipalities, which represents 120,000 tons of waste per year, as well as a share of the residual waste from SIDEC (46 municipalities) and SIGRE (22 municipalities). This totals 167,000 tons of waste per year to be incinerated in Leudelange.
